Heading for Stockholm

After the commercial success of his early shop work, L.O. Smith was keen to pursue his career. When his mother died in 1853, he decided to go to Stockholm. Through his friend commander Bengtsson, Smith was offered a seat on the ship Carl Oskar, heading for the capital.
Once in Stockholm, he found accommodation in the area of Adolf Fredrik and took up employment as a shop assistant with a Mr. Åkerman.
