Malibu offsets its plastic use through the Plastic Bank initiative
Since 2021, Malibu has had an ongoing partnership with Plastic Bank to support a plastic recycling ecosystem in the Philippines (the world’s third-biggest contributor to ocean plastic) while improving the lives of local communities at the same time.

The vision and concept for Plastic Bank are simple. It recruits local people as collectors to gather plastic waste from local beaches, riverbanks, neighbourhoods and households. The collectors get paid for the plastic they retrieve, providing them with a much-needed income, while tonnes of plastic are prevented from entering the ocean.
In FY25, Malibu will help prevent 800,000kg of plastic, equivalent to 40 million plastic bottles, from entering the ocean in collaboration with Plastic Bank. Additionally, it provides Plastic Bank credits to collectors, so they buy essential goods, including groceries – it supported some 200 collectors with these ‘grocery vouchers’ last year.
“This year our support to Plastic Bank is much closer aligned to Malibu’s use of plastic for its bottles – and through this partnership, we are now offsetting 84 per cent of our plastic use,” says Pia Hägglöf, Marketing Manager Portfolio & Innovation at Malibu. “Our ambition is to offset 100 per cent of our plastic output.”
