Leading bottling with a focus on sustainability – and training for a marathon in between: meet Theresa Hörnlen, Bottling and Sustainability & Responsibility Manager at Black Forest Distillers.

Theresa began her journey at Black Forest Distillers in customer service and sustainability, before stepping into her current role as Bottling Manager at our Weinstadt site. Today, she leads everything from production planning and team management to quality control and sustainability initiatives – including projects that combine innovation and responsibility to reduce waste and boost recycling.

Can you briefly tell us about yourself and your role at the company?

I started at Black Forest Distillers as Export and Customer Service Coordinator, where I was responsible for the American continent (or “Canada to Fireland” as I like to call it). A few months later, Sustainability & Responsibility was added to my role, which still forms part of my current position. I also oversee production planning, team leadership and quality control – from blending to EOL for our products. Plus documentation and reporting, and  logistic/warehousing at the Weinstadt site as a part of cross-functional collaboration.

Outside of work, I love sports, especially running (I ran my first marathon this year in May).

How does the idea of conviviality manifest itself in the work environment at TAG?

I really like the open, inclusive communication and collaborative culture. Even as a small affiliate within The Absolut Group, our team is integrated, included, and recognised. For me, it’s the small things – like recently receiving a special thank-you for taking part in the Compliance Challenge – that really shows appreciation and gratitude.

Can you tell us about an exciting project you have worked on recently?

Taking on the role of Bottling Manager is an exciting opportunity, both for the company and me personally.

  • I have also been involved in several amazing projects that combine sustainability and innovation like:
  • Transitioning the Monkey 47 Sloe Gin bottle to Wild Glass, now made with 95% post-consumer recycled glass
  • Planting trees at our 24-Höfe distillery to offset CO2 from our recent road construction
  • Using baling presses for foil and paper to cut waste and boost recycling

We have even more exciting ideas and projects planned for 2026 so stay tuned!

What has been your proudest moment at TAG?

My first Business Review as S&R lead where I presented our new roadmap to the TAG leadership team. It was recognised as best in class, something I take great pride in.

What’s your favourite cocktail, and do you have a personal twist to the recipe?

Of course, a Monkey 47 and tonic! I love to use a premium dry tonic and grapefruit zest, served over plenty of ice in a custom-made Monkey 47 Becher glass. Perfection!
